5 Things to Do in Nebraska City – June 2018

Summer is already in full-swing here in Nebraska City. We’ve gathered our list of 5 Things to Do in Nebraska City, all leading up to Nebraska City’s Annual Independence Day Celebration with its fireworks extravaganza.

Plus, history comes alive at both the Lewis & Clark Center and the Mayhew Cabin with reenactments,  vintage motocross with racers hoping to make the podium, and, of course, our Blues, Brews & BBQ (which dad’s love!) – mark your calendars now and we’ll see you here in Nebraska City.

Experience life on the Lewis & Clark expedition! The Missouri River Basin Lewis & Clark Visitor Center is holding its first Sunday with a Soldier event of the year. The Center’s Living History Corps presents fun and engaging demonstrations of life in the Corps of Discovery.

Come enjoy an expedition with our soldiers! Kids can dress up in look-alike uniforms and fire a traditional black powder rifle. Great photo opportunities!

The Living History Corps provides free demonstrations every 2nd Sunday through the spring and summer months.

Blues, Brews, and BBQHector Anchondo

Featuring the Hector Anchondo Band and Backswing Brewing Co.

2018 Annual Juneteenth Celebration

Experience history at Nebraska’s first nationally recognized Underground Railroad Historic Site. Mayhew Cabin hosts its annual Juneteenth Celebration with a daylong event featuring musical programs, living history demonstrations, and Civil War reenactors. In addition, Tom King will present a first person program as President U.S. Grant at 1:00 p.m., sponsored by Humanities Nebraska.

Great Plains Vintage Motocross presents the AHRMA Vintage & Post Vintage Motocross & Trials National 2018 at Three Hills Motocross Track.

It’s a weekend of two-wheeled racing on a track that rivals the best vintage-style mx courses in the USA! Up (and down) hills, through the trees, rolling through open pastureland, etc. Come out and race or come out and watch!

A small-town celebration of freedom the way George Washington intended. Complete with an hour-long fireworks extravaganza of, yes, extravagant proportions.

Nebraska City’s Independence Day Celebration spans from June 29th – July 4th. Check the website for the full listing of activities including the Independence Day Carnival, Ice Cream Social, Family Fun Run, Yoga in the Park, Beer Garden, Music, Corn Hole Tournament, and so much more!  The fireworks extravaganza is Saturday night at Dusk.
