- 2 T. cinnamon
- 1 t. nutmeg
- 1/2 t. salt
- 8 pound apples
- Combine first 5 dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Peel* and core the apples. Cut them into quarters and add to bowl.

Place into crock pot. Put the lid on the crock pot and cook on low for about 9 hours or until apples are soft.
Take the lid off and let some of the liquid cook down for about 30 minutes. Add in 1 T. vanilla and puree with an immersion blender. If you’re using a regular blender to puree the mixture, be safe, let it cool and do it in batches.
• Save peels and tear into ~3 inch strips and spread onto 2 cookie sheets. Bake in a 250° oven for 4 -5 hours or until crisp. You can check every few hours and turn if necessary to get an even bake.
Here are just a few suggestions on how to enjoy this delicious creation: Slather on warm toast, serve aside cheese on your charcuterie or sandwich in the middle of a stuffed French toast.
As you can imagine, recipe talk is often a subject at the breakfast table. Multiple guests have mentioned adding in a few cinnamon candied ‘red-hots’. We’re certainly going to give that a try next time! YUM!
